It's time to CELEBRATE! :
In sixteenth-century France, the start of the new year was observed on April first. It was
celebrated in much the same way as it is today with parties and dancing into the late hours of
the night. Then in 1562, Pope Gregory introduced a new calendar for the Christian world, and
the new year fell on January first. There were some people, however, who hadn't heard or
didn't believe the change in the date, so they continued to celebrate New Year's Day on April
first. Others played tricks on them and called them "April fools." They sent them on a "fool's
errand" or tried to make them believe that something false was true. In France today, April
first is called "Poisson d'Avril." French children fool their friends by taping a paper fish to their
friends' backs. When the "young fool" discovers this trick, the prankster yells "Poisson
d’Avril!" (April Fish!)

YES....IT'S REALLY FACT
More than 100 years ago, the felt hat makers of England used
mercury to stabilize wool. Most of them eventually became
poisoned by the fumes, as demonstrated by the Mad Hatter in
Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. Breathing mercury's
fumes over a long period of time will cause erethism, a
disorder characterized by nervousness, irritability, and
strange personality changes.
Harris Poll
A recent Harris On-line poll: 38,562 men across the US were asked to identify
woman's ultimate fantasy. 97.8% of the respondents said that a woman's ultimate
fantasy is to have two men at once.
While this has been verified by a recent sociological study, it appears that
most men do not realize that, in this fantasy, one man is cooking and the
other is cleaning

Talk About Cute....
It was that time, during the Sunday morning service, for "the children's
sermon," and all the children were invited to come forward. One little girl
was wearing a particularly pretty dress and, as she sat down, the pastor
leaned over and said to her, "That is a very pretty dress. Is it your
Easter dress?" The little girl replied, directly into the
pastor's clip-on microphone, "Yes, and my Mom says it's a bitch to iron."

Ridin' the Rails: KOSCIUSKO & SOUTHWESTERN RAILWAY
Mississippi
The Kosciusko & Southwestern Railway is offering motorcar rides on it's railroad. The rides consist of a thirty seven mile round trip beginning
and ending in downtown Kosciusko. Leaving Kosciusko, passengers will pass through light industrial and residential areas before entering
wooded areas near the West Jefferson Street bridge. The excursion continues westward past the country club lake to the McAdams community
where farm land is passed. Near Sallis the excursion enters the Long Creek bottom lands with its mixture of crop land, pastures, and hardwood
forests. Sallis at Mile Post 7 is a rest stop before continuing westward. At mile post 2 the excursion enters the Big Black swamps by crossing the
river on a trestle over 1600 feet long. At Aberdeen Jct. the line joins the Canadian National-Illinois Central Railroad. At this point the excursion
retraces its route back to Kosciusko. On Saturdays meals are available at CB's Restaurant in
Sallis on the return trip (price of meals are not
included in excursion fare).

STATION LOCATION
Where is the International Space Station? Is it above your head or
above Mongolia? Perhaps it's that bright light at sunset, or is that
Venus? This site takes the guesswork out of locating some of the
larger man-made objects in space. You can locate the space station,
Mir, Hubble, or Chandra, and many other bits and pieces of space
technology. Three-dimensional images help you track these objects as
they orbit Earth. Download the special NASA software, or follow the
links to other tracking sites. Whether you're an avid sky watcher or a
paranoid, space-junk freak, this site will keep you abreast of the
opportunities or the danger.

Wearing a seatbelt when pregnant:
Seatbelts can be unwieldy when you're pregnant. Even so, you should
never ride in a car -- or a plane, train, or bus, for that matter --
without a lap belt secured below your belly and across your hips. The
lap belt should never stretch across your belly; instead, make sure it
lies over your pelvis, which is one of the stronger bones in your
body. If there's a shoulder belt, always use that too. It should fit
snugly between your breasts. If it cuts across your neck, try
repositioning your seat so the belt fits better.
NOTE: Always Check with and follow the advice of your Physician!
Keep bathrooms safe for your baby:
Hardly a safe, warm haven, a bathroom can be a danger zone for a baby.
Keep him out of mischief -- and harm's way -- by installing a
hook-and-eye lock high up on the door and keeping it latched when no
one's using the bathroom. For bath time, place a non-slip mat in the
tub to cushion falls. Accidents do happen, so be prepared --
NOTE! Always check with and follow the advice of your physician!!

WINE COOKIES:
Makes about 8 dozen. I suggest using a dessert wine such as French
sauterne in this recipe; whatever wine you choose needs to be quite
sweet.
- 1 cup butter, at room temperature
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 egg yolks
- 5 cups sifted flour
- Pinch of salt
- 2/3 cup sweet wine
- 1 egg white
- 2 cups chopped walnuts
Cream butter, sugar, and egg yolks until light and fluffy. Sifted
together flour and salt; stir into butter mixture alternately with
wine. Mix well. Cover dough and chill 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Roll out dough 1/4 inch thick on a
floured board. Cut into 2-inch rounds. Brush with lightly beaten egg
white; sprinkle with nuts. Bake 10 minutes.
Caleries per serving: Who Cares!! Enjoy!!
