* WINTER WONDERLAND @ THE MOUNTAIN-GNOME *
*My Cabin ~ Welcome*
Well folks were back and we hope better than ever. We needed time to revamp and come up with some new ideas. We're going to keep the format and page design the same as in the past. We liked it, but more important - You Liked It!! We're going to try to get some great advertisers to sponsor some terrific contests in the future!
Please tell your friends about us.
Had some new happenings since we last met!
Got married in July of 2003! She's a great little lady and I'm happy again! Well most of the time-we ain't all perfect ya know.
I'm now working in a state prison teaching computer information. It's been real interesting to say the least. However, I'm enjoying it very much.
Welllll.......that's 'nuf 'bout me'n mine. Ya'll e-mail us with your questions and stories. We love to hear from ya!
JUDGE and JURY "OUT TO LUNCH"
Folks, when I hear some of the stories on the news these days, well sometimes ya just wanna SCREAM!! I just don't know where their heads are at. Common sense just doesn't seem to enter into our society anymore. With folks like this out there it's no wonder we have so many people in prison! On with the news....GET THIS!!
On the news yesterday...A man breaks into a house. He steals what he wants then goes out through the garage. The door to the house closes and locks, "numb nuts" doesn't have the garage door opener. Of course he's too dumb to figure out that every automatic garage door has an over-ride so you can open it in emergencies! Anywho...the owners are on vacation. He subsists for 8 days on soda pop and dog food. The owners arrive home and he's caught.
Now the thief turns around and sues the owners insurance company for suffering. The court awards him thousands of dollars for the trauma he went through. Can you believe the stupidity and ignorance of this court award?!
Now, this judge and jury ought to be doing prison time for pure stupidity!
Folks, it's crap like this, that is running this Country into the ground. Total disregard for common sense and justice!
What more stupidity can happen before the next Mountain-Gnome issue....we'll see next time!!!

TREASURES OF READING
Folks, here are some great books to read, while sitting by that warm fire on a cold winter evening, or the cool summer breezes in your EZ chair........
Journal Of A Trapper In The Rocky Mountains Between 1834 & 1843:
by Osborne Russell
Ever wonder how everyone made it west? They used trails beaten out by such men as Osborne Russell.
Written in an intensely personal style that lacks punctuation at times, The Journal of a Trapper abounds
in details about hunting and trapping in the Rockies. Russell travelled along the Yellowstone, Snake,
and Sweetwater rivers (among others), and recent readers have retraced his steps using this book; it is that accurate.
Russell encountered numerous Indian tribes, and takes care to portray them accurately: the Snake or "Sho-sho-nie" Indians
are "kind and hospitable to whites thankful for favors indignant at injuries" while "if a Crow husband wishes to speak to
his mother-in-law, he speaks to the wife who conveys it to the mother...a custom peculiar to the Crows."
Of course, not all his encounters are friendly; while camping along the Yellowstone River, local Blackfoot Indians
shot Russell and his companion through the legs with arrows. Russell's journal reflects the complex character of
many of the independent men of that era; adventurous, tough, and resourceful. He was a politician in Oregon when
he decided to write about his earlier life as a trapper in the Rocky Mountains, and he has retained the authentic
"voice of the west". Read it for its exact yet colorful descriptions, and for a rollicking good time.

America~A Bygone Era:
History: America
Rogers Rangers
Among the colonial recruits raised for the British army in the year 1755, after the devastating defeat of Gen. Braddock,
was Capt. Robert Rogers. It is thought that Rogers was raised on the frontiers of New England. When the recruits
assembled at Albany, New York, Gen. William Johnson, knowing Rogers by reputation, employed him from time
to time on important scouts. Roger's head-quarters were at Ft. William Henry, a new fort erected at the southern
extremity of Lake George.
Taking a few men, Rogers would depart by night, float up the lake to a convenient place, hide the canoe,
and push on overland through the forest, penetrating the the sentry lines of the enemy. At Crown Point,
one of the French forts, his men, under cover of night, concealed themselves in the willows only three
hundred yards from the fort. At dawn, Rogers, holding some brush as cover, crawled closer. While
making his reconnaissance, numbers of French soldiers and Indians came out of the fort and began
exercises (drill). Rogers was now unable to rejoin his men for fear of discovery. As Rogers lay hidden
behind a log, a Frenchman walked directly toward him. Rogers sprang at him pointing his musket and
offering quarter! The stranger then pulled a knife, and lunged, Rogers fired, killing him. The report of the musket
instantly gave the alarm. By the time the French arrived at the spot of the deed, Rogers and his men had made their excape.

Subject: So Be It
THE LAW IS THE LAW
So if the US government determines that it is against the law for the
words "under God" to be on our money, then, so be it.
And if that same government decides that the "Ten Commandments" are not
to be used in or on a government installation, then, so be it.
And since they already have prohibited any prayer in the schools, of
which they deem their authority, then so be it.
I say, "so be it," because I would like to be a law abiding US citizen.
I say, "so be it," because I would like to think that smarter people
than I are in positions to make good decisions. I would like to think
that those people have my best interest at heart.
BUT, YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE I'D LIKE?
I'd like my mail delivered on Christmas, Good Friday & Easter & Sunday.
I'd like the US Supreme Court to be in session on Christmas, Good Friday
& Easter as well as Sundays. After all... it was the government that
deemed these as religious observances!
I'd like the Senate and the House of representatives to not have to
worry about getting home for the "Christmas Break."
I'm thinking that a lot of my taxpayer dollars could be saved, if all
government offices & services would work on Christmas, Good Friday
& Easter & Sunday. It shouldn't cost any overtime since those would be just like
any other days of the week to a government that is trying to be
"politically correct".
This would not effect any "non-governmental" business since everyone
else still has the freedom of religion, we could all still enjoy our
holidays.
So I guess if they continue to bow to the wishes of the few, & if this
e-mail gets out to the right people, maybe they would bow to the wishes
of the many.
So be it.......and Amen!

TIPS FOR MEN ~ WOMEN and BABIES |
GUYS: Guy Guide To Smelling Good:
Want to wear a little history on your next date? Then pick
up a bottle of 4711 eu de cologne. This scent is the oldest
continuously manufactured men's cologne, bottled originally
in 1792 at the Cologne, Germany design house of Frederich
Muehlens from a recipe Muehlens was given as a wedding
present by a local monk. The cologne is bottled today using
the same ingredients: sandalwood oil from India, attar of
roses from Bulgaria and vetiver oil from Haiti.
Tell that story to your girl and see what it gets you.
NOTE: Always Check with and follow the advice of your Physician!
GALS: Get to know your hospital before you deliver
It's a good idea to familiarize yourself early in your pregnancy with
your hospital and its policies on birth and delivery, visitors,
siblings, and birthing rooms, for example, to ensure that you'll get
the kind of birthing environment you want. Most hospitals offer a tour
of the obstetrical floor at designated times. Try to take advantage of
this opportunity so the surroundings seem at least vaguely familiar
when you arrive. Some hospital maternity centers even have monthly
open houses, where expectant mothers can mingle, fill out
pre-registration forms, and get acquainted with the labor and delivery
units. Also, make sure to inquire about the parking situation, how to
access the maternity ward, and where to go if you arrive after hours
(at many hospitals you'll need to enter through the emergency room
entrance).
NOTE: Always Check with and follow the advice of your Physician!

BEAUTY: Better Than Botox?
A small percentage of the female population in America can
afford Botox treatments for their encroaching wrinkles. For
the rest us, a little free advice on preventing wrinkles
will do just as well:
- Sunscreen is only half the battle; you also have to wear
sunglasses and a visor to avoid the deadly squinting.
Invest in a pretty hat with a wide brim.
- Nothing plumps up your face better than relaxed facial
muscles. Practice gazing off into the distance, smiling at
the thought of loved ones or pets, and relaxing your
shoulders.
- When you use the restroom and wash your hands, rinse them
in cool water, dry them and press your cool fingers to your
forehead where the wrinkles gather. Relax your facial
muscles.
- Invest in a good moisturizer and keep your skin from
drying in the summer breezes. Use moisturizer after a day
at the beach or a swim in a chemically treated pool.

possibility, you should disable the Outlook Express Preview

You can now look for the small paperclip icon in the left
column of Outlook Express to see if a message has an

An insurance man visited me at home to talk about our mortgage insurance.
He was throwing a lot of facts and figures at me, and I wanted to follow as best I could, so I told my

TIP: Unsalted Butter
Are there any advantages to using unsalted butter? Some
cooks believe it is better to add salt to a dish as needed
rather than to be locked in on the salt content of an
ingredient. Salt can also mask the off flavor of butter
that isn't at its freshest point. Because dessert recipes
use very little salt, using unsalted butter can definitely
help assure the desired end result.

"classic", there are several sites I keep returning to over
the years. Epicurious (epicurious.com) has excellent
feature articles plus the Bon Appetit and Gourmet recipe

page, especially when used with the television shows.
Recipe Source (recipesource.com) is the best site to find
