In the digital world, we can all agree that passwords are a constant source of stress. Different sites often require all sorts of seemingly random password conditions. Some will ask for at least one uppercase letter and a number; others will need a minimum of 8 characters, including one particular symbol, such as $ or &.

Remembering all the variations of your password is neither easy nor secure. Once hackers crack one of your passwords, they will gain access to some of your other accounts. Worst-case scenario, they will get into your email account. From there, they can request a password reset to every single account linked to that email.

Until I started using a password manager, I fell into the mistake of using very similar passwords myself. Even then, it was not uncommon that I forgot whether I set my password with an e, E, € or 3. By the time I figured out, I was already locked out of the account.

5 Eyes, 9 Eyes, 14 Eyes – Explained

The terms “5 Eyes“, “9 Eyes“, and “14 Eyes” often appear in the privacy community, especially when discussing VPNs.

In short, these are just international surveillance alliances representing various countries around the world. These surveillance alliances work together to collect and share mass surveillance data. In other words, they are essentially acting as one global-surveillance entity to spy on you and record your activities.

In this guide we’ll explain the different “X” eyes surveillance alliances and why this topic is important when choosing a VPN service or any other privacy tool.

Five Eyes

The Five Eyes (FVEY) surveillance alliance includes:

• Australia
• Canada
• New Zealand
• United Kingdom
• United States

The history of this alliance goes all the way back to WWII and the UKUSA Agreement. This agreement officially formalized a partnership between the United Kingdom and United States for sharing intelligence. The partnership continued throughout the Cold War and has only strengthened following the “War on Terror” and subsequent “terrorist” events.

Are we on the verge of a second Civil War?

For a while now I have watched our country ripping itself apart politically and socially. It’s not the first time this has happened.

In the late 1960s when I was a college student I witnessed leftist students opposed to the war in Vietnam burn down the student union building on the campus of the University of Kansas.

I was in Chicago during the 1968 Democratic Convention when street fighting erupted between the police and demonstrators. I remember Kent State University on May 4, 1970 when 28 Ohio National Guardsmen fired 67 rounds at students protesting the war in Cambodia, killing four of them and wounding nine others.

During a period of less than four months in the summer and fall of 1969, eight bombings by the socialist-inspired Weather Underground and the Red Army Faction rocked major institutions in New York City. Both groups had the mistaken belief that they could bomb ideologies they opposed out of existence.

According to FBI statistics, the United States experienced more than 2,500 domestic bombings in just 18 months in 1971 and 1972. I remember some of them well. I covered them as reporter for the Chicago Tribune. The groups behind these attacks included the Black Panthers, the Black Liberation Army, the Symbionese Liberation Army, the New World Liberation Front, the FALN, the “Family,” and the United Freedom Front.

What does any of that have to do with what’s going on in our country today? At first glance, not much. Nobody is protesting the war in Afghanistan the way the war in Vietnam was opposed.

Yet, here we are on the verge of a new Civil War in which some misguided nuts want to obliterate our capitalist republic and replace it with a half-baked system of socialism. Never mind that socialism has failed everywhere in the world it has been tried.

Instead of the egalitarian utopias that socialism promises, it has oppressed workers, wiped out individual incentives and freedom, and guaranteed that the ruling hierarchies thrive like drones in a bee hive populated with obedient worker bees.

As this is happening, those on the right are girding themselves for what they see as a war to protect the constitutionally protected rights that millions of Americans have fought and died for since the 18th Century.

They see politically correct speech constantly eroding the First Amendment which guarantees freedom of speech and expression.

They see the persistent wearing away of the Second Amendment, which guarantees the right to bear arms against an omnipotent and possibly tyrannical central government. It’s no secret that socialist-leaning Democrats prefer a strong, Washington-based central government.

They hear the chants for a unrealistic Green New Deal, a guaranteed wage for everybody—even for those unwilling to work, free college educations, the end of cows, mandated single-payer government-run health care, and the murder of newly-born infants—otherwise known as infanticide.

We even have Democrat Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez(The face of the Democrat-Socialist Party) promising to provide progressive activists with an “enemies” list of moderate Democrats who dare to work across the aisle with Republicans.

So, are we on the verge of a second Civil War? Will we repeat the violence that almost destroyed our country between 1861 and 1865 when some 650,000 Americans died?

The political and societal signs are there as identity politics is turning us into a nation of competing tribes. Only the violence is missing. But it may not be far away.

Below I am reposting a fascinating article by Jeff Lukens, a staff writer for the New Media Alliance, a non-profit coalition of writers and grass-roots media outlets.

Easter Lamb Cake Recipe
INGREDIENTS:

• 1 (16-ounce) box pound cake mix
• 1 1/2 cups cream cheese frosting
• 2 handfuls coconut (sweetened and flaked)
• 2 to 3 drops green food coloring

INSTRUCTIONS:

• Heat oven to 375 F.
• Using a pastry brush, coat the interior surfaces of both halves of a seasoned lamb cake mold with solid vegetable shortening, making sure you get into all the crevices.
• Place halves on a baking sheet, open-side up, and heat for 20 minutes.
• Remove from the oven and let cool completely. Pour off any excess shortening. Reduce heat to 350 F.
• Prepare pound cake mix according to box instructions.
• Place the front-half of the mold on a baking sheet and fill with batter to the lip, 1/4-inch from the top.
• Submerge a toothpick in the batter in each ear to reinforce them.
• Place the back-half of the mold on top of the front.
• Place in oven and bake about 1 hour or until a skewer inserted into the vent holes of the lamb come out clean.
• Remove from oven and place on cooling rack for 15 minutes.
• Carefully remove the back end of the mold, inserting a knife between the mold edges if they are stuck together. Allow cooling for an additional 5 minutes.
• Place another rack on the lamb cake and carefully flip it over and remove the front half of the mold. Let lamb cake cool completely lying on its back.
• Place a dab of cream cheese frosting on an oblong platter and set the lamb on top to secure it.
• Frost all sides of lamb, swirling it to represent lamb's wool.
• Wrap a narrow red ribbon around the lamb's neck. Use raisins for eyes and nose,or jelly beans, cutting them in half if necessary to make them more proportional.
• Place coconut and green food coloring in a zip-top bag and shake it, to color the coconut. Place green "grass" around the lamb.
• Serve for Easter or just plain any time and enjoy!
